Vintage Ludwig drums restored to mint condition
In January 2023 I bought this beautiful but quite dusty Ludwig Standard drumset made in 1970. It has a 22x14" kick, 16x16" floor tom, and 13x9" / 12x8" rack toms. I spent the next few months meticulously restoring the hardware, shells, heads, and tracking down the missing hardware for it.
This video took quite a while to make, because I had to negotiate some studio space and put together a good recording setup for the kit. I was finally able to shoot the final part of this video in about August this year (though the drums had been back together for a while), and only just now had time to edit and finish it! Now that I've got everything sounding good and wired up I'm really excited to make some more music with it.
Big shout out to @rdavidr for inspiring this video and sending me down the vintage Ludwig rabbit hole with his original Ludwig Standard video: ua-cam.com/video/vAH44nOi_GI/v-deo.html

J. S. Bach BWV 1000 - Fugue in G minor from 1st Violin Sonata
Переглядів 4065 місяців тому
About a year ago I decided to take advantage of the natural reverb in my apartment building's hallway to record a classical piece I've been working on for a few years. This is BWV 1000, the Fugue from Bach's 1st violin sonata, one of many violin pieces since transcribed for classical guitar (this version arranged by Jean-Francois Delcamp) - transposed to E minor. The piece is extremely similar ...
Making Custom Eurorack Front Panels with a Laser Engraver
Переглядів 4,6 тис.10 місяців тому
I finally got a new, larger eurorack case! But it's shallower than my old one, so I need to re-format some modules to fit. Time to make a custom faceplate with my new laser engraver. I'm combining 3 of the Hexinverter NeinOhNein drum modules into one so I can stack the PCBs and make a module sandwich. This is a very ad-hoc and manual process, but the front panel can be designed on the computer ...
Hexinverter Mutant Hot Glue eurorack mixer: DIY build and demo
Переглядів 1,1 тис.10 місяців тому
I recently built a new mixer for my eurorack drum machine. I was previously using an outboard compressor to process the drum machine which was quite inconvenient and very noisy, so I picked a design with a built-in compressor, Hexinverter's Mutant Hot Glue. The module is available as PCB and panel set from various retailers. It's a VCA design with a few somewhat rare silicon items. In this vide...

DIY Mutable Shades (or How to Patch Sidechain Compression for Eurorack)
Переглядів 1,6 тис.Рік тому
In this video I build a Mutable Instruments Shades triple attenuverter module for my eurorack system. I'm using it in combination with a doepfer envelope follower and a VCA to create a sidechain compressor for my synth bass and drum machine setup. In this video I build the "Shane" PCB from modular-addict, but as you'll see I found it unsatisfactory from a layout and documentation perspective. I...

DIY MIDI Patch Storage box for Yamaha Reface CS
Переглядів 2,9 тис.Рік тому
I love the Yamaha Reface CS but its Achilles' heel is its inability to remember patches or presets. I created a device to solve this by storing the control change values and re-setting them over MIDI, using Arduino nano and a custom interface PCB. The source code and PCB files are available here: github.com/matthewcieplak/reface_midi
DIY kick pedal practice pad (silent drumming)
Переглядів 19 тис.Рік тому
I've been practicing my drum rudiments lately and have been trying to improve my kick technique. I had an old tama strap drive kick pedal I was playing against my couch but it was giving me some aches and pains in my ankle so I decided to build a proper practice pad to stabilize and silence it so I could get a more ergonomic practice setup. Some of the professional kick practice pads I mention ...

Great job man. Thanks for sharing.
15:46 is amazing
I bought this brand new in 85 and then a year later added the D-50 as these became my go to synths and work horse for pop cover bands the next 10 years. New, it was around $1300 and the Roland, around $1500. Boy, the memories. Thanks
I think you’re the only person in the world that has made a video about how to calibrate a sequencer with a multimeter. Thank you!
i have an idea, take the treadle from an old singer sewing machine table and hook it up to 8 kick drums in a v8 fashion...as the treadle is operated like a stomp box to maintain rhythem, the drums are fired in a sequential pattern like a v8 which could be revved up and down by speeding up the pumping
Nice! Now I feel like digging out some of my old Steve Hackett acoustic albums..
Try soaking the hoops / lugs in HOT water and blue Dawn soap overnight. Extremely effective, saves us hours and hours of scrubbing! Great video and the kit looks amazing!
@Extralife Thanks for this video! I am too much of a tech noob to even try this myself (but I totally like the idea - and maybe, someday, I will gather the nerve).
Record & Mutant are really something. Are those original from your creation or are they similar to older sequencers????
👍👍🏻👍🏼👍🏽👍🏾👍🏿
Beginner's questions ahead: Can i use it to quantize another sequencer?? Can transpose be used with an external keyboard??
3:54 how many steps is the maximum? Since it has 4 bars: 64??? Or bars are made out of 8 steps?? Perfect Circuit's description says 64 steps. But i want to be shure because i am a beginner and i am learning watching yt videos.
👍👍🏻👍🏼👍🏽👍🏾👍🏿
the order of phase and ground on mains is not so important (when in US and Europe, not UK) because wall socket plugs can be rotated 180 by users, whicj effectively switches 'polarity' 😊
🎉😢
sounds good thanks
I got the CNC file from Patreon; the sides need to have one mirrored. I'm glad I caught this and was able to have it flipped. Please update that for anyone else who downloads the CNC file.
best video on this topic, nice!
Nice drum sound with a lot of room in it! And nice work too!
Where did you buy the pcb & panel?
Why is your capo on the 2nd fret instead of the 3rd? Sounds good though.
I can hear the difference. Good job man. You should get the mustang micro headphone and blueray
Is this from the 90s? Cool video though 🤙🏼
Please let me know how many amperes I use with this circuit. Thank you
Dude is a genius.
Incredible build. Thanks man!
RAD!!! thanks for sharing
Are the sends and returns mono?
Yes, everything on the mixer is mono. Everything in eurorack typically unless specially labeled
Sorry for the late comment! Curious though, I’m making my first case following this, and in the video you say you got a 10amp fuse for the power switch, but the link in the description is for a 5amp fuse. And the data sheet for the switch says it runs 6amps. So is a 5amp fuse ok?
5A*120V= 600 watts. These power supplies draw only 65 watts so a 5A fuse should be plenty large for this application, though inrush current will be higher, it shouldn't trip a slo-blo fuse.
thanks!
These old analog consoles will make great boat anchors!
Nice work. And a nice touch with replacing the Remo decal on the head.
thanks man very good
This was sweet. Thanks a lot
Just did my Epi Les Paul Custom deluxe and worked beautifully. Thanks!!!
Thanks for the reply! Nice upgrade you made with the MOD switch and knob.
I need to clean the contacts on my Numa 2x. I have been working in a Cigar Bar. And am getting bad load velocity sounding. Can you help with disassembly of the keyboard bed?
Haven't gotten under the key bed, but it's a fatar model (studiologic is the same company) so should be easy enough. Once you get the case top open, the screws along the forward edge of the bottom case can be removed to free the keyboard assembly. I found studio logic's customer support very helpful as well when emailing them about some software questions
Great job on those gorgeous Standards.A little disappointed that your sound clips I can't really hear them. Maybe would have been better just drums, but that's just me. Overall, I love your drums, so nice!
Just bought my first one yesterday. Total pad machine. Beautiful instrument.
I had one of these about 10 years ago. Never should have sold it
can this aluminium on the pickguard touch copper?
Yes, they'll form a good electrical connection. Dissimilar metals can cause corrosion but that's generally more of a problem in wet environments and with ferrous metals. Aluminum wire and connectors are used pretty frequently in electrical connection.
Can i make this on guitar without pickguard
Korg did a bit of a Juno 6/60 move on this model. No sooner that many people had purchased the DW6000, the DW8000 was released. We didn't have the luxury of the Internet rumor mill or 'teased' photos in those days...music retailers would definitely not tell us a thing. Anyway, a great improvement over the 6000 and kept it until the DSS-1 came along. Gotta love those dual DDL's.
❤️🎵🎶🎹🎵🎶👍🎵🎶🙏☘️❤️😎
Yooooo I never realized how easy it was to cut an aluminum sheet like that! Might have to get some now cause buying black panels is cheap enough but gets spendy quick I've messed up a few blacks before. Been using just pcb taped to my rails that or cardboard. Wonder if guitar pick guard would work
Awesome👍
I have a restored Standard as well...I had to get a newer atlass tom mount and had to drill the bass a little...but all in all its a great kit
checking out the album rn. Love the sounds and way this album was arranged.
So, like a 40 hour work week later, you’re finally done? Great video and craftsmanship!
Very pleasing review to watch, good job
no alu rails is not a issue ?
Wood works fine unless you need to move modules around frequently. Modules are generally star grounded through the bus board but a strip of aluminum foil over the wooden rail wouldn't hurt if you want to ensure all the front panels are at the same potential.
